Special Services
Twig Sunday - December/January
It is important that every year, we find some way to let go of all those things
from the previous year, and so a service of letting go and embracing the new is
held each year (usually the last Sunday of December or the first Sunday of
January).
Holy Week - March/April
During the Christian season of Lent, College Hill has several extra services to
mark the special journey of Jesus to Jerusalem. it begins with Ash
Wednesday in February and concludes with Holy Week services including Maundy
Thursday which marks the time of Jesus on the night he was betrayed, and
Tenebrae on the Friday before Easter, marking the time of Jesus' death.
Earth Day - April
The Sunday before April 22 is our time to celebrate Earth Day, a special day to
College Hill UMC - we invite the children to sing, have special music and
speakers. It is a day to call us together to celebrate the goodness of
God's creation.
Memorial Sunday - May
Every Memorial Day Weekend, College Hill remembers all those saints of our
church community who died in the previous year. We hold a special
remembrance for each life and celebrate their contribution to our community.
Fourth of July
Every year we pull out all the stops for a huge musical bash at all three
worship services. We celebrate our nation's birthday College Hill style
while we swing and sway to the music!
Blessing of the Animals - October
At College Hill United Methodist, we take one Sunday a year to honor the world
side of life. At the 9:40am and 11:00am service, we invite folks to bring
us their dogs and cats and gerbils and salamanders and have them blessed.
In the tradition of St. Francis of Assisi, who loved all of God's creatures,
College Hill blesses the whole of creation.
Christmas Season - December
During the Christian Season of Advent, College Hill celebrates with Kenton
Christmas on the first Sunday of December in the evening. Stan Kenton, a
wonderful jazz musician, wrote a Christmas album for brass instruments.
That album is played in full with live musicians for an evening of Christmas
with a twist. Also, Christmas Eve services for families, with communion,
and with wonderful music highlight this special time of year.
